Dear Tumblr,
I’m neither against gay rights nor a “homophobe” or “ignorant bigot”.
I don’t believe in gay marriage or even necessarily the idea of divorce, because I do believe in what marriage is meant to be.
Marriage was established as a union between a man and a woman under the authority of God, so that they could become one under his authority. It wasn’t about tax exemption or making a statement or even necessarily about romantic love. It was initially a covenant that they would do their absolute best to leave their spouse better than they were before, more like Christ than they ever were.
Initially a religious idea, it has been changed into a part of worldwide culture. Divorce and nullification excuse the breaking of a covenant, which is not as easy as signing a paper. I know that sometimes there are bad situations that need to be ended, but if initially you meant it when you made the vows, divorce shouldn’t even be an option. Additionally, as God’s design for marriage relationships were between a man and a woman, getting married to another person of your same sex would be blatantly ignoring His design. So why would you even commit to helping each other be like Jesus if you being together in the first place is outright denial of Him?
I don’t know, I guess it’s just when people say to “have an open mind”, a lot of times what they’re really saying is “agree with me”.
